Sports and Shoes

Living in the area that we do being able to go to a big sporting event is hard for us.  Being two hours away from the center of Columbus means that going to a sporting event takes some planning on our part.

When my husband came home from his last deployment he was nominated for the Hometown Hero for Columbus Crew.  He is a huge supporter of them and I'm sure if we lived closer and he didn't work the crazy shift that he does, we would have season tickets.  However, that is not the case.  It tuns out that the day that we was to go we had no plans!

We decided to make a day out of it, since we will be leaving the country for a trip...but more on that trip tomorrow.  We needed to get a few things so we left early and started the trip down.

For any trip that you go on you need good shoes so we decided to head to DSW in Columbus.  I found nothing in my size.  I wear anywhere from a size 4 to a size 6 depending on what kind of shoe it is.  In the almost hour that I looked at that store I found nothing and decided that the shoes that I have on where just fine.

If you are looking for a good shoe and you are going to be on your feet all day, buy a pair of Tieks.  This is not a paid endorsement and they most likely have no idea of who I am, but OMG these shoes are perfect.  I didn't want to pay the price ($175) and the shoe not fit, but let me tell you something.  They only come in full size and no half.  Like I said I wear odd sizes and didn't want to be disappointed in what I was getting.  I called and emailed, the customer service was out of this world!!  I ended up ordering a pair of Cardinal Red in a size 5.  They came within four days of ordering.  I pretty much jumped the mailman when he handed me the package.

When you open the shipping box there is a smaller teal box with a flower on top.  Open that and you get the cutest handwritten note.  Then you see the shoes tucked ever so gently in some tissue paper.  It is the moment you have been waiting for, there they are.  Now when you put them on they will be snug, but put on a pair of thick socks walk around the house for a few hours and they will stretch out and conform to your feet.

The website has all kinds of them, but the red for me really just goes with everything in my wardrobe.

Here is the website:

Check them out and they are worth the price!!!

(Update 2020: I just now had to buy a new pair of Tieks.  I wore these almost everyday for 4 years and they are still worth every penny paid.)

After leaving the store empty handed and hangry we needed food.  We are both seafood lovers, so Joe's Crab Shack is always the place to go.  Who made up a rule that when you go out-to-eat you both much order an entree?  There are times that by the time you order an appetizer, an entree, then desert, you just want to lay down and nap.  So we thought to go against that "rule" and get two appetizers...you know what? It was the right amount.  He weren't stuffed and in a food coma, we could actually walk around, feel good, and then have a few snacks at the game.

You remember those shoes I was talking about? The ones right thereon my feet?  Yes, those.  I seem to wear them when there will be bad weather.  With any good leather, they hate water.  Don't get them wet.  They will be like gremlins with all of the rules that you follow.  Well, it rained.  Not just a little bit, but hurricane downpour rain.  The kind that when driving people pull off to the side of the road and wait for it to pass.  I do know better and thought that I had another pair of shoes in the car that I didn't treat like they were gremlins or children depending on your outlook.  I had to wait in the car until things passed and things were drier than the Sahara outside.

There are many things that I don't do, my hair, makeup, worry about shoes, my clothes, but when I am next to my husband that will be in uniform I tend to go "full girl."
Makeup is done to the fullest, hair is styled, clothes are on point, shoes will be cute. As you can see...on point as kids say today.
This Hometown Hero was able to go out onto the field, run around, was put on TV, and had a once in a lifetime day.  Seeing little kids come up to him and shake his hand, saying thank you, random people offer to buy him a drink, all because they are proud of what he is doing that most do not or will not.  It was very heartwarming to watch.

At the stadium if you live in Ohio, even if you do not like sports, you need to go just for the food.  They honestly have something for everyone.  I highly suggest Hot Chicken Takeover.  If you are from the South, you know what hot chicken is, if you are not, well sit back and let me tell you about it.

Hot Chicken Takeover is a wonderful company to be honest.  They bring jobs to those that normally would not get a chance to work.  Check out what they are about here: (http://hotchickentakeover.com/our-story/our-mission/)
Now for the chicken....that wonderful, crispy-tender-juicy-spicy-lip-puckering chicken.  There are so many types that you can get, but whatever you do get the slaw with it.  The chicken comes either cold, warm, hot, or holy.  Warm is warmer than normal hots to me, but it gives you those Angelina Jolie lips that everyone wants.  When you order the sandwich it comes with two slices of bread on the bottom, the chicken, two pickles, slaw, and then two more slices of bread on top.  I recommend either getting a knife or learning the stance; elbows out and a big mouth.  Don't forget the homemade ranch to cool it off some.  Slaw.  It needs a sentence all of its own.  It is not your normal mayo based, it was honey, sugar, a touch of vinegar, pepper, and some other wonderful spices that I just can't put my tongue on. Just try it. You will be wanting more before you can say Hot Chicken Takeover.

For dessert, opt for a Jumbo Cream Puff from Schmidt's Sausage Haus.  The puff is bigger than a grown man's hand so split it or not...up to you.  The special whipped filling is so addictive that I wish it came with an extra scoop.  The best way that I can explain the taste is that it is almost like a Bavarian cream with something extra.  If you go to the restaurant and order the Autobahn Buffet, you get all the sausage you can eat, sides, plus the Jumbo Cream Puff...even if you do have to take it home do it.  If you live in Columbus or close and love those things check it out!

The game itself is a lot of fun.  They have the normal two 45 minute halves, with a 15 minute break.  So if you do go to a game plan for about three hours for traffic, game, and traffic again.  During the half-time they have normal games and honor others at the game.  There is never a bad seat there.  We were in section 127 row 23 and they were still very nice.

You won't be able to miss anything around you.  The seats are normal sporting event seats,  Small, cramped, and way to close to each other.  If it is hot out, you may end up smelling the person next to you.  Advise on that stand point is make friends with them and say hello.  At this stadium you will see planes fly just over the score board since the airport is about 15 minutes away.  The sunsets are stunning as you can see it was starting to go down in the picture.

Over all the day was great.  The Crew won the game 2-0, the food was delicious, crowd was pumped, and weather ended on a good note.

I do need to give a shout-out to the Columbus Crew staff for being such wonderful and supporting to those that serve our country.  Being able to see my husbands smile and have a dream of his come true made the day.  When you live so far away and don't get to go to a lot of the games, it was a treat and they made it a great experience.  Thank you for letting us take all of the pictures and video that we did!

Tomorrow we leave on a plane for a HUGE trip!  Check back then to find out where we are going or go to my Instagram and follow me to see a sneak peak!
